From hobby basement to multifunctional “wine lounge” – a space for enjoying, lingering, talking, and playing.

The starting point is unusual

The room: a typical modern hobby space with exposed concrete, a table tennis table and a rather bleak, cold basement atmosphere. The challenge: to create a combined space for wine enjoyment and table tennis fun that invites people to linger. Step by step, it turns into a place people love returning to: the wine area at the front, the play area behind.

Shelving adapted to its functions

The shelves follow the walls and keep pathways clear. They provide orientation without intruding into the room and leave enough space for serves, movement and backhand strokes. Tasting and playing remain close, yet do not interfere with each other.

Slender wall shelves store individual bottles on metal rods; the design extends up to the ceiling and forms a calm visual frame. Technology disappears: a roll-out wine rack conceals the house connections, while an additional cabinet at the rear stores supplies.

Temperature that fits

The wines are stored in climate-controlled wine cabinets. White, rosé, red or magnum: everything is ready at the appropriate serving or storage temperature. Doors open, bottle out, glass filled — nothing more is required. The wine coolers are integrated flush into a shelving front. The rhythmic division of compartments creates calm, and the bottles become visual focal points.

At the tasting table

The centerpiece is a tasting table with high stools. You sit down, pour a glass and talk about vintages and styles without haste. A calm pendant light concentrates the light on the tabletop, while the rest of the space remains pleasantly bright.

The new implementation is spectacular

The materials and surfaces are robust and the bottles are safely stored. Even, glare-free lighting enables both enjoyment and sporting activity. The oak-look vinyl flooring brings warmth into the basement and cushions footsteps while ensuring safety.

Another highlight: two marble wall panels by the artist Tim Bengel were integrated into the overall concept and invite reflection and philosophical thoughts.

The result:

A true multifunctional space has been created, bridging two worlds. A sporty wine lounge that has grown out of a simple hobby basement and now allows for ever new and diverse experiences.
